Settlers Campus
1935 and 1961 Boston Post Road, Westbrook, CT

Concept: Settlers Campus is comprised of two buildings, Settlers Landing (1961 Boston Post Road) and Settlers Place (1935 Boston Post Road). Settlers Campus is a unified complex of individual units for Vista Engage Program members with programming and staffing that create a single system of support and community. Vista Engage members, living at Settlers Campus, will be one functioning entity. Programming will be designed to foster collaboration while each Vista Engage member will also have his/her own individualized services.

Description: There are two buildings at Settlers Campus. One is located at 1961 Boston Post Road and is called Settlers Landing. The other is at 1935 Boston Post Road and is called Settlers Place. Settlers Landing has 24 units and Settlers Place has 20 units. All units must be occupied by Vista Engage Program members. Settlers Landing units are fully occupied and Settlers Place units are now for sale.

Access: The residents of Settlers Campus will share common areas around the campus. The indoor common areas, the grounds surrounding both buildings, parking lots, and office buildings are available and accessible to residents of either building during regular program hours. Key fobs will allow members to enter the common spaces. There will be two office buildings and exterior storage units.

Membership Services: Residents of Settlers Campus pay a monthly membership fee to Vista for group based services and on-call overnight emergency assistance. There will be one Resident Assistant located in a condominium in the Settlers Landing building. This Resident Assistant is on-call to residents in both buildings of the Settlers Campus.

The two buildings will each offer on-site group programming offered by Vista staff. Programming will include meals and activities as desired by the residents of Settlers Campus. Programming will be offered in both buildings and can be accessed by both Settlers Landing and Settlers Place residents. This model allows for greater socialization and increased opportunities for friendship as the group will consist of approximately 45- 50 residents.

Vista staff will provide individualized life skills and counseling for each Engage Member, as outlined in his/her Service Plan. Settlers Campus is part of the Lighthouse Village. Program Counselors and Life Skills Instructors are located at either of the two office buildings on campus or at the Vista Westbrook Campus.

Summary: A unified service structure is designed to ensure maximum flexibility and opportunity for residents to engage in common social and recreational activities. The culture of connectedness and relationships that is enhanced by the individuals that form this community. Engage members have the "best of both worlds". They are able to live independently in their own condominium while having a social group at their ready. This is best practice for not only enhanced functioning but also for aging in place while maintaining a full and well-balanced lifestyle.
